Beauty of the Chinese Tea Ceremony
The Traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony, known as Jing Cha, meaning “to respectfully offer tea,” is one of the most significant and heartfelt events in a Chinese wedding. This beautiful ritual serves as a formal introduction for the couple, showcasing the deep respect they hold for their families and their commitment to honoring those who have shaped their lives.
How is it Done?
During the ceremony, the couple kneels before their respective parents and serves them tea as a powerful expression of gratitude and respect. This act symbolizes the joining of two families and the promise of mutual support.
After honoring the parents, the couple serves their grandparents, then their oldest uncles, aunts, and siblings. Each elder receives tea with reverence, and as they take a sip, they typically present a lai see (a lucky red envelope) to the couple, often containing money or jewelry as a blessing for their future.
